Wildcats Fall to USC Upstate in Return Home

DAVIDSON — The Davidson Wildcats were unable to make the most of a two-run lead after six innings and fell 9-7 to USC Upstate Wednesday night at Wilson Field.
The loss drops the Wildcats, fresh off Tuesday's 8-0 win at N.C. A&T, to 4-2.
The Spartans (3-5) scored three runs off three hits and two errors in the top of the seventh and added another run in the eighth to get the victory.
The Wildcats knocked 13 hits, but four errors proved costly.
Ruben Fontes became the first Wildcat to hit multiple home runs this year. After homering in the second game of the year against Towson, Fontes hit his second round-tripper to lead off the bottom of the sixth.
Eric Jones, Justin Lebek, Matt Frey, Alex Mardiney and Zach Nussbaum all had two hits apiece.
Robby McGaha, who was 2-for-4, was the lone Spartan with multiple hits.

Davidson will host Toledo in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
