'Cats Lead Short-Lived as Wake Wins 15-5 Tuesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Davidson baseball dropped its Tuesday midweek with Wake Forest 15-5 at Couch Ballpark, splitting the season series.
The Wildcats slip to 18-10 overall, while the Demon Deacons move to 12-17.
Sophomore Zach Nussbaum reached base in both of his plate appearances, including blasting his first collegiate long ball (also his first hit of the year), a three-run shot over the left field wall.
Juniors Justin Lebek and Eric Jones also homered, each delivering solo round trips.
Back-to-back walks issued to Lebek and sophomore Greg Lowe paved the way for Nussbaum in the second, as he ripped the ball an estimated 450 feet to give Davidson a 3-0 lead. Lowe was walked three times during the contest.
The Demon Deacons trimmed the lead the following frame, blasting a homer of their own to cut the score to 3-2.
Jones replied with insurance, raking in his team-leading sixth home run of the season in the third, and Lebek followed suit, belting a 450-foot moonshot over left center to put the 'Cats up 5-2.
Wake tied the game and proceeded to take the lead in the fourth, scoring four times as a result of a walk, three straight doubles, and a passed ball.
They then solidified their lead in the seventh, plating eight runs off seven hits and a 'Cat miscue.
Davidson finally returns to Wilson Field, welcoming league foe George Mason for a weekend series beginning Friday, April 6.
