KINGSTON, R.I. –
Davidson baseball snapped its nine-game losing streak against Rhode Island Friday, routing the Rams 12-2 at Bill Beck Field.

The Wildcats improve to 16-9 (2-2 A-10) on the year, while Rhode Island falls to 6-19 (0-4 A-10).

Four 'Cats tallied two hits each, led by senior Alec Acosta's 2-for-5 day, where he launched his fourth long ball of the season. Sophomores Brett Centracchio and Ward Coleman and freshman Alex Mardiney joined him in the multiple-hit column. Centracchio, junior Justin Lebek, and sophomore Walker Imwalle all scored two runs each, as Imwalle also went yard for his fourth of the year.

Junior Allen Barry moves to 5-1 on the season, tossing six innings allowing just one run and striking out eight.

The 'Cats exploded in the sixth, putting up nine runs. The offensive upsurge began with Centracchio's leadoff triple, the first of his career. After junior Max Bazin walked to put two on, classmate Eric Jones knocked in his first of two runs in the frame, the first coming on a groundout down to second.

Davidson took the lead after Coleman reached via error that allowed Bazin to score, and senior Andrew Born was hit-by-pitch to keep two runners on. The duo of Acosta and Imwalle recorded back-to-back jacks, giving the 'Cats at 6-1.

The excitement continued, as Lebek doubled and then advanced to third on a single through the left side from Mardiney. After he stole second to put two runners in scoring position, Centracchio and Bazin worked back-to-back walks to allow Lebek to score and leave the bases loaded.  Jones then picked up his second RBI, reaching on a fielder's choice that allowed Mardiney to come home.

Centracchio brought the inning full circle, coming home on a passed ball. He continued to impact the offense, bringing in Lebek in the seventh, who was walked and advanced on another single from Mardiney.

The 'Cats added another two runs in the top of the ninth, after Imwalle led off with a walk, moved up to third on a double from pinch-hitter Matt Frey, then scored on a passed ball. Frey then came home on a fielder's choice from fellow pinch-hitter Zach Nussbaum.

Davidson and Rhode Island will square off in the second of the three-game series Saturday, slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
