DAVIDSON, N.C. --
Davidson baseball continues Atlantic 10 play this weekend, preparing for their first road series of the conference season, heading to Kingston, R.I., to take on 2016 league champions Rhode Island. The Rams were chosen to finish third in the A-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, while the Wildcats were tabbed fifth.

SCOUTING THE RAMS
Rhody comes into the weekend with just six wins, but the Rams have played one of the toughest nonconference schedules in the league thus far, taking on 2017 National Champions Florida and beginning their season at then-No. 9 Texas A&M. The Rams were swept by VCU last weekend in their A-10 opener, battling in a 15-inning game Saturday before falling 1-0.

Despite just hitting at a .202 team clip, the Rams have two above .300 hitters in outfielder Jordan Powell (.305) and Jackson Coutts (.321). Powell leads with a team-best 23 hits and nine RBI.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Davidson is just 2-9 all-time versus the Rams. Their last win came in 2015, Davidson's first season in the Atlantic 10 and The 'Cats have fallen in nine straight contests against Rhody since. Last year, then-sophomore Max Bazin banged out two hits in the series opener, was walked three times in the series and drove in a run. Classmate Eric Jones scored three times with three hits, including a homer, and two RBI.

JONES RANKED 19TH ON D1BASEBALL CATCHER POWER RANKINGS
Davidson junior Eric Jones continues to make a name for himself, as the backstop was tabbed 19th on d1baseball.com's Catcher Power Rankings Tuesday evening.

The list names the top 30 catchers offensively through the first six weeks of the season, taking early season statistics, raw talent, defensive statistics, and ability all into consideration.

Jones is the only player from the Atlantic 10 to appear on the list, and also the only player from the league on the three position lists that have been revealed thus far (first base, second base, catcher). He is also the first Wildcat to earn such recognition.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite outhitting the Gamecocks nine hits to seven, Davidson suffered a 5-4 defeat at South Carolina Tuesday. Max Bazin and Alex Mardiney ech tallied two hits and scored, as Bazin doubled and Mardiney drove in a run.
