Baseball Begins A-10 Play Hosting Fordham This Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson baseball will begin Atlantic 10 play this weekend, welcoming Fordham for a three-game series beginning Friday, March 23. The Rams were tabbed eighth in the A-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, while the Wildcats were chosen to finish fifth.Â

SCOUTING THE RAMS
Fordham begins conference play with a 10-6-1 record, most recently taking two-of-three from visiting Cornell. The Rams have already played four extra-inning contests this season, two of them coming last weekend.
Fordham leads the league and ranks third in the country with an impressive 57 stolen bases on the season, topping the nation with 3.35 swiped bags per game. The Rams are led offensively by sophomore outfielder Billy Godrick, who boasts a .333 average and a team-best three homers and .540 slugging. Fordham ranks fourth in the league with a 3.80 collective ERA, but have totaled a league-best 181Â strikeouts.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Davidson is just 4-2 all-time versus the Rams, with the two teams meeting for the first time during the 2015 season, Davidson's first in the Atlantic 10. The 'Cats most recently picked up the opening game of the series in 2016 with a 5-0 shutout, and then-sophomore Alec Acosta recorded two hits and scored twice.Â

Junior Eric Jones claimed his second A-10 Player of the Week plaudit for his performance last week, where he hit .450 with nine hits (two HRs, a double, triple) while driving in 13. He scored six times and struck out just once in 23 plate appearances. The Charlotte product is tied for the national lead with 32 RBI on the season, and tops the league in four different offensive categories, including home runs (5) and slugging (.686).Â
As a team, Davidson tops the conference in seven separate categories, including ERA (2.75), OBP (.401), slugging (.452), walks (110), and runs (137).Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats suffered their first shutout of the season Wednesday, falling 3-0 on the road at Winthrop. Junior Max Bazin, sophomore Ward Coleman, and freshman Alex Mardiney all delivered multi-hit performances.Â
LAST WEEK AT WILSON FIELDÂ
The 'Cats went a perfect 5-0 at home, scoring double-digit runs in three contests. Davidson exploded in its finale against Mount St. Mary's, tallying 12 runs in the first inning to take an 18-7 victory. Sophomore Walker Imwalle launched his third long ball of the season in a 3-for-4 day at the plate, and Bazin also homered in the win.Â
THE BULLPEN BEER GARDEN
Saturday will mark the first of four Bullpen Beer Gardens this season. Every Saturday during home A-10 play, fans can take part in the event, which will begin 30 minutes prior to first pitch. Anyone 21 and over can enter the garden set up in the outdoor cage and enjoy adult beverages from NoDA Brewing in Charlotte. Cash or card will be accepted.Â
