Davidson Hosts Three in Weekend Tournament

DAVIDSON, N.C. – After a heartbreaking 12-11 extra-inning loss Tuesday, Davidson baseball (2-2) looks to bounce back this weekend, welcoming three teams for a round-robin style weekend at Wilson Field.
The 'Cats will face the UMass Lowell River Hawks Friday at 6 p.m., the Lehigh Mountain Hawks Saturday at 5 p.m., and wrap things up with Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Fans can follow each contest through the @dcbaseball_ Twitter account for in-game updates, as well as live stats and video stream via the links provided.
THE SERIES
Davidson and UMass Lowell have never faced off before, while Lehigh holds a 4-1 all-time advantage over the Wildcats, and the 'Cats have taken both contests against FDU.
In 2012, both Lehigh and FDU visited Wilson Field, where the Wildcats split a two-game series with the Mountain Hawks, but took the only contest with the Knights. FDU and Davidson also played in 2014, where the 'Cats won 4-2, when then-freshman Brian Fortier doubled and scored, and classmate Westin Whitmire tossed two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and picking up a K.
THE DAVIDSON RUNDOWN
After dropping a game which they scored 11 times and mashed out 16 hits, the 'Cats are looking to respond in strong fashion this weekend. Fortier, now a senior, cranked out his second homer of the season, and sophomore Eric Jones joined the long ball club, taking a first-pitch ball sailing over left field. Five players recorded multi-hit performances, led by sophomore Justin Lebek's three hit, two RBI, two run day.
Senior Cody White made his 2017 debut for the 'Cats, tossing 2.2 innings of relief, allowing no runs and striking out three. Sophomore Andrew Ashur also recorded a solid stat line, working 1.2 frames scattering just one hit and picking up two Ks.
SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
UMass Lowell (1-3) enters the weekend coming off its first win of 2017, beating UConn 11-8. The River Hawks have two players already with three homers in sophomores Russ Olive and Chris Sharpe. Sharpe also has a team-high two doubles, and junior infielder Ben Prada has a team-best four runs.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
Lehigh begins their season this weekend after posting a 25-29 record and earning their third-straight Patriot League Tournament berth a year ago. The Mountain Hawks return 26 players and welcome nine newcomers. Nine starters, including seven seniors, and a mostly returning rotation anchor a veteran crew. The team's offensive leader lsat year, outfielder Jason Nalesik, posted a .333 average with 70 hits, including seven homers, while infielder Patrick Donnelly had a team-high 50 RBI.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
Fairleigh Dickinson comes to North Carolina seeking its first win of the year after suffering a three-game sweep to Savannah State. Junior Jason Fatzinger has a FDU-best .429 average and is tied for the lead with three runs, while the trio of freshman Brandon Seltzer, sophomore Evan McDonald, and junior Bobby Romano all have a squad-best four hits, with Romano posting the only homer on the young season.
