'Cats Host First Mid-Week Contest at Wilson Field Wednesday

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson baseball team hosts its first mid-week contest Wednesday night when it welcomes James Madison to Wilson Field for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
The Wildcats (6-5) hold a 6-3 record at Wilson Field this season, after winning both weekend series this season. Davidson is coming off a 2-1 weekend against Lafayette. RHP Clark Beeker started the weekend off pitching his first career complete game Friday night, allowing just one run off eight hits with seven strikeouts as he moved to 2-0 on the season.
Davidson head coach Dick Cooke tallied his 500th career win at Davidson this past Sunday with a 5-2 win over the Leopards.
Brian Fortier leads the team with 12 hits, five RBI and six runs scored for a .333 batting average. Beeker had a team-low 2.05 ERA, allowing just six runs - five earned - off 20 hits with 18 strikeouts that ranks second in the conference.
James Madison (5-6), who broke a five-game losing streak last week by winning three if the last four games, will face VMI Tuesday night before heading to Wilson Field Wednesday. The Dukes are batting .273 on the season with Chad Carroll leading the team with 20 hits, six RBI and 10 runs scored for a .426 batting average. Two other Dukes are batting above .300.
