DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-3 lead, the Davidson baseball team fell to Lafayette College, 14-9, in game two of the series Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.

Down 3-2 after four innings, Davidson (5-5) gained momentum in the fifth after back-to-back lead off hits, including a RBI double from Cam Johnson that tied the score at three.

After Johnson scored off a wild pitch, Jake Sidwell and Sam Foy drew back-to-back walks before Lee Miller singled to left field to load the bases with no outs. A two RBI single from Brian Fortier and an error from Lafayette gave the Wildcats a 7-3 lead heading into the sixth inning.

But the Leopards (2-5) rallied for two-or-more runs in each of the final four innings to secure the win.

Brian Fortier led Davidson with a 3-for-5, two RBI performance, while Cam Johnson and Andrew Pope followed with two hits apiece. Campbell Lipe led both teams with four hits, four RBI and one run scored in five at bats for Lafayette.

Coleman Strohm, the second Leopard in relief, recorded the win for Lafayette, allowing two runs off four hits in two innings.

Andrew Ashur recorded the loss for the Wildcats, allowing three runs off four hits in 1.2 innings in relief. Five other Wildcats appeared on the mound for Davidson, including Durin O'Linger who pitched the first 5.1 innings and finished with four strikeouts.

The two teams will conclude the weekend series tomorrow, March 6 with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
