Highlights
DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to Clark Beeker's first-career complete game, Ward Coleman provided a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Davidson baseball team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Lafayette College Friday night at Wilson Field.
Beeker pitched all nine innings for Davidson, allowing just one run off eight hits with seven strikeouts as he moved to 2-0 on the season.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth, Davidson tied the score after Alec Acosta drew a one-out walk and then was driven in by a triple down the right-field line by Lee Miller. Coleman, who pinch-hit for Andrew Born, brought in Miller off a hopper to right field to secure the win.
Coleman is now 3-for-3 in his young Wildcat career, after going 2-for-2 at Duke.
Lafayette (1-5) got on the board in the third after Drew Aherne singled through the left side and was later scored off a double from Dan Leckie.
Three Leopards appeared on the mound for Lafayette, including David Bednar who pitched the first seven scoreless innings and only allowed only three hits. Ari Kaufman (1-1) took the loss, throwing 1.1 innings in relief and allowed two runs off two hits.
Six different Wildcats recorded a hit for Davidson, while two Leopards went 2-for-4 on the day as Lafayette outhit Davidson 8-6, but left eight on base.
The two teams will resume the weekend series tomorrow, March 5, with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Wilson Field.
