'Cats Continue Homestand with Two Mid-Weekers Against Iona

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson baseball team will continue its eight-game homestand Tuesday and Wednesday when it welcomes Iona to Wilson Field. Both contests are scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Wildcats (10-9) hold a 9-4 record at Wilson Field this season, winning series against Georgetown, Lafayette and Furman. Davidson is coming off an impressive weekend, sweeping Furman with three come-from-behind victories. Aaron Tovsky led the team throughout the three-game series, recording eight RBI off four hits, including a three-RBI homerun, for a .333 batting average.
Brian Fortier leads the squad with 21 hits, including two doubles, and 11 RBI for a .318 batting average. On the mound, Clark Beeker (4-0) leads the team with an impressive 1.95 ERA, allowing just eight earned runs with 29 strikeouts in a team-high 37.0 innnings. Beeker pitched 8.0 innings this past Friday and only allowed four runs - one earned - off six hits with six strikeouts against the Paladins to remain undefeated this season.
Iona (4-12) enter this week on a four-game losing streak, as it fell to UNC Wilmington this past weekend. Matt Byrne leads the Gaels with 23 hits, including three doubles, and 12 RBI for a .383 batting average. On the mound, Vinny Martin leads the squad with a 2.19 ERA, allowing 14 runs - three earned - off 11 hits in 12.1 innings.
