BERKELEY, Calif. – California shot 52.5 percent, drilled 12 3-pointers and got 22 points from Jordan Mathews as the Bears defeated Davidson, 86-60, in non-conference men's basketball Monday evening at Haas Pavilion.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 8-3 overall, while Cal improves to 10-3.
In addition to their strong offensive performance, the Bears held Davidson to just 31.3 percent, while holding a 47-28 advantage on the glass.
Despite the setback, Peyton Aldridge led the Wildcats with 15 points and 7 rebounds.
Cal raced out to a 20-4 lead and stretched its first-half advantage to as many as 27 before going to the break up, 47-23.
Mathews scored 19 of his points before intermission, including five buckets from long range.
Jaylen Brown added 17 points for Cal, while frontcourt mate Ivan Rabb recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
After the Wildcats opened the second half on a small spurt, the Bears responded and extended the lead to 32 to put the game out of reach.
