Davidson Baseball Tops UNCG 7-5 in Game 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman pitcher Henry Sisson tossed his second consecutive complete game, and Drew Gadaire's two-run single in the sixth inning provided the game-winning runs as Davidson topped UNCG 7-5 in Southern Conference baseball action at UNCG Baseball Stadium Friday night.

It was the fifth consecutive victory for the Wildcats (16-19, 7-12 SoCon).

With the scored tied 5-5, two UNCG errors helped the 'Cats load the bases in the sixth frame, and Gadaire came through with a two-run single with two outs to put Davidson back on top 7-5.

Sisson held the Spartans off the scoreboard the rest of the way to preserve the win. The rookie scattered four hits and gave up a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth but held UNCG in check.

Gadaire finished the contest 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while Ryan Lowe was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Forrest Brandt also collected two hits, and Calvin Sigelbaum went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs.

Trevor Edwards and Cambric Moye each collected two hits to lead UNCG (18-18, 4-12 SoCon).

The Wildcats scored three runs in the first inning on their way to opening a 5-1 lead. Gadaire plated a run with a single, and Lowe drove in two with a single down the left field line.

After an Edwards single drove in a run for UNCG in the bottom of the frame, Davidson scored two in the top of the fourth. Daniel Gerow doubled with one out and scored on a Sigelbaum single. After Sigelbaum took third on a wild pitch, Brandt plated him with a sacrifice fly.

But the Spartans came right back to tie the score in the home half of the inning on the strength of a two-run double by Cole Harrison and a pair of RBI sacrifice flies from Zach Leach and Moye.

Because of the threat of inclement weather Sunday, the two teams will finish the series with a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
