'Cats Drop Opener at Mason, Doubleheader Set for Saturday

FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason rallied in the final two innings and earned a 3-2 walk-off, series-opening win over the Davidson baseball team Friday afternoon.
The Patriots' clincher was Owen Clyne's bases-loaded, RBI-single in the ninth.
Now 12-15 overall and 4-6 in the Atlantic 10, Davidson led 2-1 into the eighth. Jamie Daly hit a solo home run in the fourth, his third of the season, and the Wildcats moved ahead in the fifth when Theo Loughlin led off with a walk and scored on Aidan Rice's sacrifice fly.
Starting pitcher Wilson Perkins turned in his top outing of the season. In six innings of work, he scattered five hits, allowed one earned run and struck out one.
The Patriots (15-12 ,8-2) tied the game 2-2 on a Luciano Terrelli RBI-single in the eighth inning and were in position to do more damage. But reliever Ivan Hoyt entered a bases-loaded situation and ended the threat with one pitch, sending the tied teams into the ninth.

With rain in the forecast on Sunday, the teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
