'Cats Pull Away for Win in Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS — Matt Manjooran hit a three-run home run and helped Davidson pull away from Lehigh 13-7 Saturday afternoon at Atrium Health Ballpark.

The win clinched at least a series victory for the Wildcats, who improved to 6-7, while Lehigh dropped to 3-8.

Manjooran's first career home run came with one out in the seventh inning and the Wildcats leading by two runs.

After trailing 3-0 early thanks to two Lehigh home runs, the Wildcats took the lead for good with four runs in the sixth, which was highlighted by an Anthony Torreso RBI-triple and RBI-singles from Forrest Lietz and Theo Loughlin.

Davidson got its first lead after a four-run second inning, which included four walks and a Brendan Fritch double, while Fredy Diaz narrowly missed a home run on an RBI-double off the wall in the third. Lietz finished with three hits, while Loughlin had two.

Jacob Vokal earned his first win of the year, after throwing 3.2 innings in relief of starter Cooper Cavanaugh (3.0 IP). With Davidson leading 9-7 in the seventh, reliever Ivan Hoyt entered with two on and two out and kept the Mountain Hawks hitless the rest of way, while striking out three, to earn his second save.

The Wildcats are now 4-1 at Atrium Health Ballpark.
