
VCU Holds Off Wildcats Late

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Lazar Djokovic led five VCU players in double figures with 20 points as the Rams held off Davidson, 75-69, in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Saturday evening from inside John M. Belk Arena.
VCU, which shot 54.9 percent, including 59.1 percent in the second half, improve 14-6 overall and 5-2 in league play, while the Wildcats fall to 12-7 and 4-3.
Despite the setback, Sam Brown paced the 'Cats with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting in just 24 minutes. Josh Scovens added 15 for Davidson, which finished just 7-of-14 from the charity stripe.
VCU broke a 54-54 deadlock with eight unanswered to take its largest lead of the night, 62-54, with 6:42 to play. The 'Cats clawed their way back eventually cutting the deficit to 70-69 on a Brown triple with 1:31 left.
Davidson had a chance go in front and tie the game on separate possessions with less than 30 second remaining, but was unable to convert.
Terrence Hill, Jr. (14), Brandon Jennings (13), Michael Belle (12) and Tyrell Ward (10) also scored in double figures for VCU.
After the Wildcats built a 27-20 lead at the 7:49 mark on a Sam Brown bucket, the Rams closed the opening 20 minutes with a 17-4 run capped by 11 unanswered to lead 37-31 at the half.
