'Cats Return Home, Will Host Saint Louis This Weekend

After eight games away from campus, the Davidson baseball team returns to Wilson Field this weekend for a three-game set against Atlantic 10 Conference foe Saint Louis.
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Through four weekends of A-10 play, Davidson (14-17 overall) is atop the league standings with a 9-3 record.
• George Mason and Rhode Island are a game back at 8-4, while Dayton, Fordham and Saint Joseph's are 7-5.
• The Wildcats have won their last four league games, including a sweep at Fordham last weekend.
• They have also won series this season against Lafayette, UMass and VCU (sweep).
• Davidson leads the A-10 with 53 home runs and ranks second with 71 doubles and a .523 slugging percentage.
• Infielders Michael O'Shaughnessy and Eli Putnam lead the Wildcats at the plate.
• O'Shaughnessy has team-bests in average (.378), OPS (1.129), on-base percentage (.460), doubles (10), RBIs (41) and hit-by-pitches (13) and has also hit nine home runs. He was A-10 Player of the Week on March 31.
• O'Shaughnessy has had 10 multi-RBI games and 13 multi-hit games, with highs of five hits, three home runs and nine RBIs in a March 29 game at Dayton. He enters the weekend on a 14-game hitting streak.
• Putnam leads the Wildcats with 11 home runs (t-2nd in A-10), 88 total bases and a .677 slugging percentage, while also hitting .362 with a 1.106 OPS, eight doubles and 35 RBIs. On March 24-25, he earned A-10 Player of the Week, Golden Spikes Award Player of the Week and Perfect Game National Player of the Week honors.
• Outfielders Jamie Daly and Cider Canon and infielder Jack Cotrone are also posting averages above .300 and OPS marks north of 1.000 and have each hit at least seven homers.
• Daly, like O'Shaughnessy, has had 13 multi-hit games.
• Designated hitter Anthony Torreso and pitcher Cooper Cavanaugh have added recent sparks since returning from injuries.
• In 14 games and 11 starts, Torreso is hitting .368 with four doubles, a triple, three home runs and 15 RBIs. He has an OPS of 1.300, including a .763 slugging percentage and a .537 on-base percentage, and Davidson is 7-4 since Torreso joined the lineup.
• Cavanaugh has made three appearances and thrown seven scoreless innings, while allowing two hits and striking out nine.
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS
• The A-10 regular season champion a year ago, Saint Louis enters 17-15 overall and 6-6 in the A-10, tied for seventh with George Washington in the 12-team standings.
• In league play, the Billikens have posted 2-1 series victories over Saint Joseph's, Dayton and St. Bonaventure. Most recently, they were swept last weekend at George Mason.
• SLU posted a 13-3, seven-inning victory over Division II Rockhurst on Tuesday night.
• First baseman Riley Iffrig leads the Billikens with a .389 average, a 1.125 OPS, 13 doubles, 37 RBIs and 71 total bases. He has also homered four times.
• Outfielder Brenden Stressler has hit a team-best seven home runs and is hitting .295 with a .941 OPS.
• Outfielder Hayden Moore is tied for second in the league with three triples and is tied for third with 31 walks. He's also stolen 12 bases.
• Pitcher Charlie Weber sets the tone with a 4.01 ERA and a .238 opponents' batting average.
