Anderson's Homer Lifts 'Cats Past Queens 9-8

With their second win over the Royals this year, the Wildcats improved to 18-25 overall, while Queens fell to 11-34.
Anderson's solo shot to right field, his fifth of the year, was the Wildcats' third homer of the night and broke an 8-8 tie with two outs in the seventh. It was also Anderson's third homer in the last three games.
Three times Tuesday, Queens pulled even with Davidson on the scoreboard, but down the stretch, pitchers Adam Katz and Matt Weber made sure the Wildcats stayed on top. Katz (1-0) entered the 8-8 game with two on and two out in the sixth, ended the threat and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, while allowing two hits.
And Anderson did some work with his glove to help as well. To end the bottom of the eighth, he outstretched to catch a line drive at the fence and preserve the lead.
In the ninth, Weber struck out two, allowed a double and then forced a flyout to Anderson to end it and earn his first save.
Cider Canon's two-run home run, his fifth of the year, came in the third inning and helped the Wildcats build a 5-1 lead. And Jacob Friend hit a three-run missile to right in the sixth, his ninth, to make it 8-5.
Canon drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly in the first, and Eli Putnam added a two-run bloop single in the four-run fifth.
