Wildcats Fall Short at Winthrop

With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 14-21, while Winthrop improved to 14-20-1.
Jacob Friend and Putnam hit back-to-back homers in the first inning to give the Wildcats an early 2-0 lead. Friend's blast to right was his seventh of the season, and Putnam's shot to left was his eighth, tying Michael O'Shaughnessy for the team lead. Putnam then hit a solo homer to center in the ninth, cutting the deficit to one run.
In the second, Gavin Thomas notched his first college hit on a home run to straightaway center.
But Winthrop scored four runs in the third and four more in the sixth.
Noah Jouras had an RBI-single in the sixth and a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Tyler Douglas added an RBI-double in the eighth.
Lefty Jason Ban made his first career start on the mound. He threw two scoreless, hitless innings and struck out three in a no-decision.

The Wildcats will host Richmond this weekend in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
