'Cats Fall in Finale, Settle for Series Win

DAVIDSON — The Davidson baseball team will settle for a series victory over Saint Joseph's, as the visiting Hawks won Saturday's season finale 15-8 at Wilson Field.
 
The Wildcats exit the weekend 13-14 overall and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Hawks improved to 10-15 and 1-2.
 
Jacob Friend, Michael O'Shaughnessy and Nick Calero homered for the Wildcats, who were tasked with overcoming a 5-0 deficit.
 
Friend and O'Shaughnessy homered for the second time in the series, and both did it in the third inning. Friend hit a three-run shot, his fourth of the year, and O'Shaughnessy's solo blast two batters later was his team-leading seventh.
 
Calero's two-run homer in the seventh, his first of the season, cut the Hawks' lead to 10-8, though Davidson inched no closer.
 
Aidan Rice (sacrifice fly) and Tyler Douglas (RBI-single) drove in runs in the fourth and fifth, respectively. Cider Canon went 2-for-5 and was the only Wildcat with multiple hits.
 
Starter Ryan Feczko threw 2.2 innings before handing the ball to the bullpen.
 
Saturday was the Wildcats' seventh home game in eight days.
 
Up Next
The Wildcats will complete their eight-game homestand by hosting Queens on Tuesday.
