DAVIDSON — High Point scored four early runs and held off a late Davidson threat to leave Wilson Field with a 7-3 victory Tuesday night.
The Wildcats fell to 11-13, while High Point improved to 11-14.
Davidson got on the board in the sixth inning when Michael O'Shaughnessy scored on a wild pitch after singling to left.
Then, down 7-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Wildcats pushed in runs on RBI-singles from Nick Calero and Jake Wilhoit, and had the bases loaded with no outs. But High Point's Cael Chatham entered the game and earned the final three outs.
O'Shaughnessy, who had a first-inning triple, and Tyler Douglas had two hits apiece to lead the Wildcats.
In his first start on the mound, right-hander Micah Baermann threw 3.2 innings, allowed one hit and one earned run, walked two and struck out two. In one stretch, he retired nine straight batters.
The start of Tuesday's contest was delayed an hour by lightning in the area.
