Wildcats defeated 2-0 by Charleston Southern

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson women's soccer team took a 2-0 loss against Charleston Southern Thursday at Alumni Stadium.Â
The loss moves the Wildcats' record to 2-3 on the year while the Buccaneers become 3-1-1 overall.Â
The first half of Thursday's match was yet another intense defensive battle for the 'Cats as they played to a 0-0 halftime result. Davidson out-shot the Buccaneers 5-1 over the first 45 minutes while claiming most of the offensive possession.Â
Coming out of the break, the 'Cats picked up where they left off, firing two shots over five minutes with one being on target. However, the second half belonged to Charleston Southern who netted its first goal in the 62nd minute via Claire Deangelis.Â
The Buccaneers tacked on an insurance goal three minutes later (65:52) courtesy of Dakota Fiedler to take a 2-0 advantage.Â
Davidson's best chance at preventing the shutout came when SJ Pak scored a goal directly from a corner kick serve but the goal was negated by an offsides ruling.
Despite the final result, the Wildcats had a solid offensive presence that saw Brooke Ditcham, Aleia Gisolfi-McCready, Alli Jacobson and Riley Patton each take two shots while Ella Barnes and Emma Peddrick had one shot apiece.Â
Freshmen Olivia Bestic and Brooke Roumy were on the pitch for a full 90 minutes for the Wildcats as key parts of their defensive efforts.Â
For the game, Davidson held advantages in shots (10-3) and corner kicks (9-1) while both teams placed three shots on goal.Â
The Wildcats are back in action when they travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to face Campbell 3 p.m. Sept. 3.Â
