Davidson (25-18 overall) also got a quality six-inning outing from left-handed starter Ryan Feczko, while improving to 11-4 in the Atlantic 10.
Friend hit a grand slam as part of a six-run fourth inning that also included Henry Koehler's RBI-sacrifice bunt and a Carico double, his first hit since getting injured against Coastal Carolina on March 3. Friend hit his second home run, a solo shot and fourth of the year, in the eighth.
Carico, who grounded out to second in his first at-bat, finished 3-for-4, also including a two-run home run to right in the sixth. Tyler Douglas was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Ryan Wilson drove in two with a sixth-inning double, while also extending his reached-base and hit streaks to 43 and 19 games, respectively.
Feczko (6-4) scattered six hits, allowed one earned run and struck out four. He had 1-2-3 innings in the first, fifth and sixth and left with an 11-1 lead.
VCU (22-24) is now 8-8 in league play.
