WIldcats Fall to Rams, Will Settle Series Saturday

DAVIDSON — Michael Carico homered for the second straight day, but the VCU Rams took over late and evened the three-game series with a 9-4 win over Davidson Friday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats (25-19, 11-5 Atlantic 10) and Rams (23-24, 9-8) will now settle things in Saturday's series finale at 2 p.m.
Carico, who returned from a two-month injury absence Thursday, hit a three-run home run to right field in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4. But the Rams scored a run in the next half inning and four more in the ninth to pull away.
Davidson's first run came in the bottom of the first when the Rams held a 2-0 lead. Ryan Wilson was hit-by-a-pitch, advanced on Henry Koehler's double and scored on a wild pitch. Wilson saw his 19-game hit streak end Friday, but he walked twice and extended his reached-base streak to 44 games.
A day after homering twice, Jacob Friend went 3-for-4.
Starter Jacob Peaden threw five innings, allowed six hits and four earned runs and struck out three before handing the ball to Isaac Fix (2-2).
