'Cats to Enter A-10 Tournament as No. 2 Seed

RICHMOND, Va. — Saturday's results are in, and Davidson will travel to next week's Atlantic 10 Baseball Tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Davidson and Saint Joseph's entered the season's final day vying for the regular season crown and top seed, with Davidson needing both its own win over Richmond and a Saint Joseph's loss to George Mason. Saint Joseph's, however, ended the league race shortly after 3 p.m. with a 13-6 defeat of George Mason. That made Davidson's late afternoon result inconsequential to the top spot — Richmond won 18-2.
Davidson concludes the regular season 29-22 and 15-8 in A-10 play, a half-game ahead of third-place Dayton. It's the program-best 10th straight winning season, and 15 A-10 wins are the second-most the Wildcats have had in a regular season, behind only the 20-4 championship campaign of a year ago.
The A-10 Tournament bid is the Wildcats' seventh since joining the league in 2015. Along with the pandemic-shortened 2020 season when no tournament was held, the Wildcats have only missed the postseason once (2021) as an A-10 member.
The 29-win mark is the third-best for a regular season in program history, following only the 42 wins of 2022 and the 32 of 2018.
It's also already the fourth-best overall win total (including postseasons) in Davidson history, tied with the 2014 and 2019 final records.
Next week at The Diamond in Richmond (hosted by VCU), the Wildcats will be seeking their second A-10 Tournament championship (2017).
With a walk in the first inning Saturday, Ryan Wilson completed the regular season having reached base in every game (51). That's three off the school record set by Will Robertson in 2017.
