The teams now enter the second game of the series tied with 5-2 A-10 records.
Davidson, now 19-13 overall, stayed within striking distance, thanks to a two-run fourth inning. Jake Wilhoit's third home run of the year and a Ryan Wilson RBI-double cut the Flyers' lead to 5-3. But Dayton answered in the next half inning with a three-run home run by Carlos Castillo.
The Wildcats loaded the bases in the ninth and scored one run on a wild pitch to finalize the scoring.
Jack Cotrone was the lone Wildcat with multiple hits, going 2-for-4, and Jacob Hinderleider had an RBI-double in the first inning.
Starter Will Schomberg (5-2) threw five innings in the loss. Brycen Champey and Nick Shedleski threw two hitless innings apiece from there.
