'Cats Host Two on Final Weekend, Will Honor Seniors Sunday
10/26/2023 12:32:00 PM | Field Hockey
One final weekend of play remains on the Davidson field hockey schedule, and it's an eventful one, as the Wildcats will host two home games and also honor their alumni and 2024 senior class.
Â
Davidson will host A-10 foe Saint Louis Friday, then welcome non-conference opponent Ohio in Sunday's season finale.
Â
The Wildcats are 5-11 overall and 0-6 in the A-10.
Â
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Sophomore Sib Naaktgeboren continues to rank among the league leaders in multiple categories. She is third with 3.00 shots and 1.87 shots-on-goal per game and is tied for 11th with six goals and 15 points.
• Junior Abby Pompeo leads the Wildcats with seven goals, which is tied for eighth in the A-10.
• Pompeo is just the third Wildcat since 2017 to score seven goals in a season, following Charlie Kabelac (2022) and current assistant coach Hannah Fisher (2017).
• One more goal would give Pompeo the most in a season for a Wildcat since Katherine English and Anne Federico scored eight each in 2016.
• Four Wildcats have assisted on three goals apiece, including Naaktgeboren, Matilda Collins, Macy Curtis and Bella Worthington.
• The Wildcats have their most wins since 2018, and a sixth would match their most since 2016.
• Davidson is coming off a 5-0 loss at No. 14 Saint Joseph's last Friday.
Â
FRIDAY IS ALUMNI DAY
• When they face Saint Louis, the Wildcats will honor those who have helped build the Davidson field hockey program.
• Players from the past will join the Wildcats in their pregame walk-out and huddle.
Â
SUNDAY IS SENIOR DAY
• Prior to Sunday's contest with Ohio, the Wildcats will recognize eight graduating players.
• That includes: Susannah Armstrong, Genna Barge (graduating early), Campbell Hickman, Annie Hirshman, Evie Lake, Sarah Minges, Cato Roell and Ellie Taylor.
Â
SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
• The Billikens arrive 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the A-10, but as winners of their last two games. Â
• That includes a 5-1 victory over league foe Lock Haven last Friday. In that win, the Billikens scored five second-half goals.
• Josefina Perez leads the Billikens with five goals, four assists and 14 points. Demi Sahuleka has also scored five goals.
• Davidson has won 10 of the last 11 against Saint Louis, with the lone exception a 1-0 Billikens win last season.
Â
SCOUTING OHIO
• The Bobcats feature one of the MAC's top players in fifth-year forward Katelyn Whittle, who leads the league with 17 goals, seven assists and 41 points.
• Whittle scored five goals and had two assists in a win over Bellarmine last week and is the reigning MAC Offensive Player of the Week.
• Pauline Hartlieb is another scoring threat with six goals.
• The Bobcats are 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the MAC entering Friday's game at Appalachian State.
• Ohio and Davidson have met the last two seasons, with the Bobcats earning one-goal wins.
