'Cats Blank Towson 4-0 to Notch First Win

DAVIDSON — Two goals in a four-minute, 11-second stretch of the third quarter helped the Davidson field hockey team pull away from Towson 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 1-1.
Lourdes Wolf got the Wildcats started with a goal in the 12th minute of the first quarter, off an Ellie Johnson assist. It was Wolf's team-leading second score of the season.
But the Tigers (0-2) stayed within a goal until Matilda Collins converted a penalty stroke with 10:36 left in the third quarter. Emily Najarian then followed with a goal, her career first, to make it 3-0 with 6:25 left in the third.
Davidson made it 4-0 in the fourth when Ise Adams scored her first college goal by deflecting in a hard-hit pass from fellow freshman Sophie Rousseau.
Meanwhile, the Davidson defense held firm throughout and thwarted every Towson threat. Keeper Avery Foster made four saves in the shutout.
