RICHMOND, Va. — Davidson pushed top-seeded Saint Joseph's in a 2-1 loss at the Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinals Thursday at VCU's Cary Street Field.
The one-goal margin is the best performance for the Wildcats against the perennial national power, which has won the last five A10 Tournaments, since a 2-1 defeat in 2015.
The Wildcats closed the season 10-10 after going 10-9 a year ago, marking the first time Davidson has had consecutive 10-win seasons since 2010 (14 wins) and 2011 (11).
The Hawks (10-9) advanced to play either No. 2 Richmond or No. 3 VCU in Saturday's final.
Alison Buffington's goal with 9:53 left in the first quarter gave the Hawks an early lead, but they didn't expand it until Alex Enslin struck with 1:26 left in the third.
Ise Adams scored the Davidson goal off a rebound with 50 seconds to play, cutting the deficit to one with the fourth goal of her freshman campaign.
Davidson's defense kept the Wildcats in it throughout, even though Saint Joe's had a 12-7 shots advantage and led 7-1 in penalty corners. The Wildcats finished with a 5-4 edge in shots-on-goal.
