CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. — Matilda Collins scored an overtime game-winner off a penalty corner to lift the Davidson field hockey team past La Salle 2-1 Friday afternoon at The Proving Grounds.
It's the first Atlantic 10 win of the year for the Wildcats, who improved to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Collins' goal, assisted by Ava Perkins and Eva van der Kooi, came 4:50 into the extra session and delivered the Wildcats' third straight win over the Explorers (4-8, 1-3). It's the eighth goal for Collins, which matched her with Lourdes Wolf for the team lead.
The Explorers led 1-0 at the half thanks to a Natalie Foreman goal early in the second quarter.
But the Wildcats tied it on a Liv Goeke goal in the third quarter, also off a penalty corner. Goeke's third goal of the season came after a Perkins insert and a Collins pass.
Davidson finished with a 29-10 shots advantage, including 17-6 in shots-on-goal, and the Wildcats had a 10-6 edge in corners. Keeper Avery Foster made five saves.
