DAVIDSON — Davidson's field hockey team scored three goals in just more than six minutes of the third quarter to pull away from Longwood 5-0 Friday evening at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.
It's the third shutout win of the season for the Wildcats, who improved to 3-3.
Matilda Collins scored two goals for the second time in her career, including one on a penalty stroke to make it 2-0 with 8:26 left in the third quarter. Maia Macaloney scored her first career goal exactly two minutes later on a hard-hit shot from along the left end line, and the Wildcats made it 4-0 via Emma Datch's goal with 2:18 left in the third.
Datch's goal, off a penalty corner, was assisted by Ava Perkins and Eva van der Kooi, and was also her career first.
The Wildcats' first goal of the night came from Liv Goeke with 34 seconds left in the first quarter. Ise Adams assisted on that goal and also on Collins' fourth-quarter goal and now leads the team with three assists.
Davidson's offense posted season-highs of 30 shots and 22 shots-on-goal.
The Wildcats' defense snuffed out most Longwood threats in the midfield, while keepers Avery Foster and Eleanor Larsen made one save apiece in the shutout.
Keeper Sophie Mooldijk kept the Lancers (0-4) within striking distance for more than a half with 17 saves.
