Field Hockey Opens A10 Play at Richmond Friday

The fourth weekend of the field hockey schedule marks the beginning of Atlantic 10 Conference play, and the Davidson Wildcats will open their six-game league slate at Richmond Friday afternoon.
The 5 p.m. contest at Crenshaw Field will be a rematch of last year's A10 semifinal in which the host Spiders earned a 4-2 victory.
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson is 4-3 this year, having won two straight and three of its previous four.
• Last weekend, the Wildcats defeated Longwood 5-0 at home and earned a 2-1 road win at Ohio.
• Against Longwood, Matilda Collins led the way with two goals, while other scores came from Liv Goeke, Maia Macaloney and Emma Datch. Ise Adams had two assists.
• At Ohio, Lourdes Wolf and Collins provided goals before the Bobcats got within a goal in the final two minutes.
• Wolf, a sophomore forward from Germany, leads the Wildcats with five goals, which is tied for second-most in the conference. It also matches Wolf's 2025 season total, when she earned A10 All-Rookie and First Team honors.
• A senior back from England, Collins has scored four goals, including three on penalty strokes.
• Adams, a freshman midfielder from the Netherlands, is the team leader with three assists and is tied for third in the league.
• The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 18-6 and rank second in the A10 (9th nationally) with an 0.86 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
• Richmond is 4-2 and leads the A10 in many statistical categories, including goals per game (4.17), penalty corners per game (8.33) and goals against average (0.52, 5th nationally).
• The Spiders feature one of the league's top players in senior forward Clara Larripa, the A10 leader with eight goals and 17 points. She was an A10 First Team pick last season and scored a hat trick in the A10 semifinal win over the Wildcats.
• Freshman Abril Peroni (5 goals) is second in the league in scoring, while Elen Nicholls (5 assists) and Valen Luna Paratore (4 assists) rank first and second, respectively.
• Spiders keeper Amanda Cimillo has the league's best saves percentage (.870) and goals against average (0.54).
• The Spiders split the A10 regular season title with VCU last year and were the postseason tournament's top seed before ultimately falling to Saint Joseph's in the final.
• Richmond was picked second in the 2026 preseason coaches poll with 42 points, two back of projected favorite Saint Joseph's.
• The Spiders own wins over Queens, American, Longwood and Georgetown by a combined 24-0 margin and have lost only to No. 5 North Carolina and No. 6 Duke in one-goal games.
