WILDCAT SCRATCHES
  • Davidson and VCU will meet for the second time this month.
  • The Wildcats enter 10-11 overall and 3-6 in Atlantic 10 play following a 74-70 setback to Saint Louis Friday.
  • Eight of the 'Cats' first 10 Atlantic 10 contests have come against teams predicted to finish in the top-half of the standings.
  • Since joining the A-10 in 2014-15, Davidson has won two regular season titles (2015, 2022), a tournament title (2018), made three NCAA Tournaments (2015, 2018, 2022) and totaled 94 league wins (11.3 per year).
  • The Wildcats have recorded an average finish of 4.0 in the 15-team conference and made the A-10 semifinals each year.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Nine of Davidson's contests this season have been decided by five or fewer points. The Wildcats won the first three, but have dropped six straight decided by that margin.
  • Sam Mennenga continues to lead the Wildcats in scoring (16.5 ppg), rebounding (7.7 rpg), field-goal percentage (.516) and 3-point field-goal percentage (.375).
  • In addition to leading Davidson, he ranks among A-10 leaders in scoring (9th), rebounding (5th) and field-goal percentage (13th).
  • Foster Loyer, who has scored 791 of his 1016 career points at Davidson, ranks among league leaders in scoring (15.3/11th), 3-pointers made (48/8th), free-throw percentage (.904/1st), 3-pointers per game (2.3/9th), assists per game (4.6/4th) and steals per game (1.7/6th).
  • Loyer and teammate David Skogman (.882) rank 1-2 in the league in free-throw percentage.
  • Since being inserted into the starting lineup, Desmond Watson is averaging 11.2 points, including a pair of 19-point performances.
LAST TIME OUT | SAINT LOUIS - 74, DAVIDSON - 70 | JAN. 27, 2023 | DAVIDSON, N.C.
  • Five Wildcats scored in double figures Friday night, but Davidson came up on the short end of a 74-70 Atlantic 10 contest with Saint Louis inside Belk Arena.
  • A Connor Kochera 3-pointer pulled Davidson even at 62-all with 6:56 remaining, but the Billikens responded with a 6-0 run and made the Wildcats play from behind from there. Trailing 70-68, Davidson had a chance to tie it with 29 seconds left, but Foster Loyer's jumper missed the mark. The Billikens quickly went the other way and extended the lead back to four with a Yuri Collins layup. After a Grant Huffman layup again cut it to two with six seconds left, Collins sealed the win with two free throws.
  • Sam Mennenga led Davidson with 16 points, while Loyer and Huffman scored 13 apiece. Desmond Watson and Kochera scored 11 and 10, respectively. David Skogman came off the bench with a game-high 10 boards.
  • Collins, the nation's assists leader, finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists to lead the way, while Billikens' Javon Pickett and Javonte Perkins scored 14 and 13, respectively.
  • The game started at a hectic pace, with the teams combining to hit their first six shots and the Billikens ultimately hitting their first eight, including four treys, en route to a 10-point lead. A 9-0 Davidson response made it close, and the Wildcats held the Billikens without a bucket in the final five-plus minutes of the half to lead it 38-34 at the break.
UP NEXT
  • Davidson will travel to UMass this weekend for a 12:30 p.m. contest Saturday afternoon.
