PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – In addition to Sam Mennenga's 27-point, 11-rebound effort, fellow captain Foster Loyer netted his 1,000th career point in Davidson's 64-57 win at La Salle Tuesday evening inside Tom Gola Arena.
With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 10-10 overall and 3-5 in A-10 play, while the Explorers fall to 8-12 and 2-5.
A redshirt junior from Auckland, New Zealand, Mennenga finished 10-of-16 from the floor, including three treys en route to his fifth double-double of the season and third in the last four outings.
He was joined in double digits by Loyer and David Skogman, who finished with 12 and 11, respectively. Loyer also added 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.
After La Salle scored four straight to go up 41-37, Davidson responded with a 13-4 run to take the lead for good midway through the second half.
Highlighting the 'Cats' game-changing streak was three 3-pointers, including Loyer's with 12:48 to play, making him the 54th player (4th transfer) in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Davidson, which got 17 first-half points from Mennenga, trailed 33-32 at intermission.
The Explorers used a 14-5 spurt midway through the opening period to build a 25-18 lead. The Wildcats slowly chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to one at the half thanks to Loyer's trey just before the buzzer.
Daeshon Shepherd led La Salle with 14 points.
The 'Cats' drilled 9-of-22 shot from long range, while holding La Salle to just 33.9 percent from the floor.
