Mason Uses Late Run and Free Throws to Edge Davidson, 67-65

FAIRFAX, Va. – Despite four players in double figures, Davidson fell at George Mason, 67-65, in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Saturday afternoon inside EagleBank Arena.
The Wildcats, who led for almost 34 minutes, fall to 9-9 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Foster Loyer and Grant Huffman paced Davidson with 16 points each, while fellow starters Sam Mennenga and Desmond Watson added 13 apiece.
In addition to going 7-of-9 from the floor and hitting double digits for the fourth straight game, Huffman also had 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals, all personal bests.
Trailing 62-56 with just 2:49 left following a 9-0 Mason run, the Wildcats answered with a 9-2 spurt capped by a pair of Loyer free throws to retake the lead, 65-64, with 25 ticks remaining.
On the next possession, Josh Okuro, who led the Patriots with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists, went to the line with just 14 seconds left and made both to put his club back ahead for good.
Davidson had one last chance in the waning seconds, but Loyer's straight-away 3-pointer caromed off the side of the rim.
Mason shot 52.2 percent after intermission to remain unbeaten (10-0) at home.
After George Mason (11-7, 3-2) took its first lead of the contest, 49-48, midway through the second half, Davidson responded scoring six of the next eight points to go back up, 54-51.
For the third consecutive game, the Wildcats started fast, this time jumping out to a 14-2 advantage thanks to four early triples. Mason slowly chipped away, cutting the deficit to 28-27, but Davidson closed on an 8-2 spurt to lead 36-31 at the half.

Davidson will continue its three-game road stretch Tuesday with a 7 p.m. contest at Dayton.
