After a quick detour to the road, the Davidson women's soccer team will play its next three games at home, beginning with Thursday night's 7 p.m. contest against UNC Asheville.
Â
The Wildcats are off to a program-best 5-0-1 start, which has included five straight wins after a season-opening draw with USC Upstate.
Â
"We're really pleased with how the players have been playing individually and collectively," said coach Adam Denton. "Really pleased that we've got some shutouts, and we've grinded out some victories. We're looking forward to closing out the non-conference schedule with two home games at Alumni Stadium."
Â
After UNC Asheville, the Wildcats will host Carolina University on Sunday, then open Atlantic 10 Conference play against Dayton Sept. 15.
Â
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats have posted three consecutive 1-0 wins and scored in the 82nd minute in both victories last week.
Â
Phoebe Fowler's goal was the game-winner against Wofford on Sept. 1, and Aleia Gisolfi-McCready's goal was the difference at Winthrop on Sept. 4.
Â
Six Wildcats have scored goals this season, led by Brooke Ditcham and Riley Patton, who have scored two apiece. Hailey Braemer leads the team with two assists and 10 shots-on-goal.
Â
The Davidson defense has surrendered two goals in 540 minutes, while keeper Mary Grace Bunch has made 11 saves at an .846 saves percentage.
Â
Â
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
UNC-Asheville enters with a 2-3-1 record, including wins over VMI and South Carolina State and, most recently, a 4-0 loss at Elon.
Â
Taylor Gardner leads the Bulldogs with four goals and three assists, while three others have scored at least two goals.
Â
Gardner was named Big South Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 22 after totaling two goals and two assists that week.
