UNCG Edges Wildcats in Extras at Wilson

DAVIDSON — The Davidson baseball team saw its nine-game winning streak stopped Friday night at Wilson Field, as UNC Greensboro edged the Wildcats 5-4 in 11 innings.
The Wildcats, now 17-4, tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth on Michael Carico's second RBI-single of the night, but Pres Cavanaugh's RBI-double in the top of the 11th proved to be the difference for the Spartans.
Carico's first RBI-single sparked a three-run fifth inning for the Wildcats, which also included a Henry Koehler RBI-single and Ryan Wilson's RBI-double to left. That gave Davidson a 3-2 lead.
But UNCG's GC Jarman belted a two-run home run in the sixth to put the Spartans up a run before Carico drove in Jake Wilhoit in the bottom half to tie it.
Carico finished the night 4-for-4, while Wilson and Joe Haney had two hits apiece.
Starter Nolan DeVos threw six innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out 11 in a no-decision.
From there, Ryan Kutz (2.2 IP), Gabe Levy (1.0 IP) and Alex Fenton (1.1 IP) pitched in relief, with Fenton taking the loss.

The series continues Saturday with a 3 p.m. game at UNCG. It'll be the Wildcats' first contest away from Wilson Field this year.
