Wildcats Host Tribe in Tuesday Twin Bill

DAVIDSON — Rucker Taylor's Davidson Wildcats will be back on the Wilson Field diamond Tuesday when they host William & Mary in an afternoon doubleheader.
First pitch is set for 1 p.m. for the seven-inning contests.
Now 12-3, the Wildcats have won their last four games.
LAST TIME OUT
It was a decisive weekend sweep for the Wildcats, who cruised to three victories over Norfolk State.
Forty seemed to be the magic number of the weekend: The Wildcats outscored NSU 40-4, drew 40 walks (including eight by Ryan Wilson) and Wildcat pitchers struck out 40 (11 from Nolan DeVos).
Some other numbers from the weekend:
• 13 stolen bases, including four by Wilson
• 6 home runs, including two by Trevor Candelaria, one of which was a grand slam
• 1.00 team ERA
• .299 team batting average
• Wilson finished the weekend with a 2.133 OPS (1.400 slugging, .733 on-base)
ON THE BUMP
Through 15 games, the Wildcats pitching staff continues to get the job done, with a 2.82 ERA and a .198 batting average against.
The Wildcats lead the Atlantic 10 and rank high nationally with 2.42 walks-per-nine-innings, a 1.04 WHIP and a 4.54 strikeouts-to-walk ratio.
Friday starter DeVos has been setting the tone with an 0.38 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 24 innings, while holding opposing hitters to a .133 average. Gabe Levy has settled back into the closer's role with five saves.
IN THE BOX
The Wildcats continue to get the job done at the plate, collectively posting a .299 average and a .431 on-base percentage.
Catcher Michael Carico has been the top threat with a .481 average (25-for-52), a 1.460 OPS, 10 doubles, three home runs, 17 RBIs, 44 total bases and 11 hit-by-pitches.
Wilson is hitting .422 (1.226 OPS) and leads the way with seven steals.
Carico, Trevor Candelaria and Parker Nolan have each hit three home runs, while Candelaria leads the Wildcats with 20 RBIs, and Nolan has a team-best two triples. Jacob Hinderleider has drawn a team-leading 17 walks.
SCOUTING THE TRIBE
William & Mary enters 5-7 and comes to Davidson on its way home from a series at Georgia Southern. The Tribe dropped all three games in Statesboro, Ga., falling 7-3 (twice) and 6-2.
Coached by former VCU pitching coach Mike McRae, William & Mary opened the season with a three-game sweep of Rhode Island, and Davidson is the third of six Atlantic 10 teams the Tribe will play this season. William & Mary has also already played Richmond and has games scheduled against George Mason, VCU and George Washington.
