DAVIDSON — Coming off a midweek postponement, the Davidson baseball team is back in action this weekend, when it hosts Norfolk State for three games at Wilson Field.
Friday will feature a doubleheader of nine-inning games, beginning at 4 p.m., and the series will wrap up with a 1 p.m. Saturday game.
The Wildcats enter 9-3 after splitting a four-game home series with Columbia last weekend.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Norfolk State comes to town with a 3-6 record, having won two of three last weekend against the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Dionte Brown is the Spartans' top hitter, with a .368 average, two doubles, four triples and 10 RBIs.
He's one of just three players nationally with at least four triples.
AMONG THE LEAGUE LEADERS
A number of Wildcats lead the Atlantic 10 in statistical categories, including catcher Michael Carico, whose eight doubles lead the league and rank fourth nationally. He also leads the A-10 in hit-by-pitches (7) and on-base percentage (.582), while Parker Nolan is tops in the A-10 with two triples.
On the mound, Gabe Levy is the league leader — and second nationally — with five saves as he climbs the program's career list. He's now at 17 career saves, fourth all-time.
Nolan DeVos leads the league with 14.82 strikeouts per nine innings, followed closely by teammates Blake Hely (2nd, 13.5) and Will Schomberg (4th, 12.0).
