LAST TIME OUT
• Foster Loyer and Hyunjung Lee combined for 44 points and the first-place Davidson Wildcats held off Duquesne 72-61 Monday night in Atlantic 10 men's basketball.
• Loyer finished with a game-high 24 points, including 10 of 12 points in a late stretch, and Lee scored 20, with eight of those coming in the first five minutes.
• The Wildcats scored 20 of the game's first 24 points, crafting 10-0 and 8-0 runs in the early moments. That 20-4 lead was surpassed only by a 47-30 advantage early in the second half, which followed an 8-0 spurt, capped by a Loyer trey.
• But after that spike, the Dukes responded with an 8-0 run of their own to cut it to 47-38 and stayed within reach much of the second 20 minutes. Duquesne cut it to 65-59 with 3:31 to play, following a 6-0 run, but the Wildcats closed it out with four points from Loyer, a Sam Mennenga layup and a Luka Brajkovic free throw.
• Michael Jones added 10 points, while Brajkovic narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Mennenga finished with seven points and seven boards and had a thunderous jam to make it 57-42 with 12:03 left.
