‘Cats Bounce Back with 69-60 Win over South Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Foster Loyer scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half as Davidson bounced back with a 69-60 victory over South Carolina on day two of the 2022 Charleston Classic inside TD Arena.
The Wildcats improve 4-1 overall and will take on Old Dominion Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Loyer, who entered the annual event as the nation's third leading scorer, was joined in double figures by Sam Mennenga (15) and Connor Kochera (12).
Davidson also got solid contributions from its bench as Desmond Watson had 9 points and David Skogman added 6 points to go along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal in 28 minutes.
Trailing 34-27, the 'Cats took control and the lead for good with a with a 26-8 streak highlighted by five treys, including four from Loyer.
The Wildcats pushed their advantage to as many as 12, 56-44, on a Mennenga three-point play with just under nine minutes to play.
Davidson, which finished with 17 assists on 26 field goals, shots 44.8 percent (26-58), while holding South Carolina (2-2) to just 39.3 percent (22-56).
Chico Carter, Jr. paced the Gamecocks with a game-high 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting including all six of his club's 3-pointers.
After using a 10-3 run to go in front, 23-16, Davidson went scoreless over the next 8 minutes and 57 seconds allowing South Carolina to close the half on a 13-2 spurt and take a 29-25 lead into the break.
