Wildcats Split Friday Twin Bill With Billikens

ST. LOUIS — The Davidson baseball team split an Atlantic 10 doubleheader with Saint Louis Friday afternoon.
After a 7-5 loss to start the day, the Wildcats rebounded for a 4-1 win in the second game to earn at least a series split in the four-game season-ending set, which concludes Saturday. Davidson won the series' first game 11-3 on Thursday.
The Wildcats will enter Saturday's 1 p.m. season finale 26-24 overall and 10-13 in the A-10.
Game 1
Saint Louis (17-30, 6-9) scored four runs in the first inning and never trailed in its 7-5 win.
In the third inning, Alex Fedje-Johnson's RBI-double to left got the Wildcats on the board, and Trevor Candelaria drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
Ruben Fontes brought in two runs in the sixth with an RBI-double to right, and Jacob Hinderleider's RBI-sacrifice fly made it 7-5.
Game 2
Henry Koehler drove in three of the Wildcats' four runs in the 4-1 victory.
His first-inning triple plated Candelaria to give the Wildcats an early lead. In the seventh, he doubled to right to score Candelaria and Fedje-Johnson.
The Wildcats' second run came in the fifth after Jake Wilhoit doubled, advanced to third on a Garrett Browder sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch.
Gabe Levy threw five innings, allowing five hits, no earned runs and striking out seven, including the side in order in the fifth.
Nolan DeVos threw the final two innings and earned his league-leading eighth save of the year. He allowed one hit and struck out the side in order in the sixth.
