'Cats Open Series With 11-3 Win at Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS — Davidson scored eight runs in the fifth inning Thursday evening to surge past Saint Louis 11-3 in the opener of the final Atlantic 10 series of the season.
Winners of three of their last five, the Wildcats (25-23, 9-12 A-10) set a new season-high for runs in an inning, surpassing the seven they scored in the fifth against Richmond May 2.
The fifth included seven hits and one Billikens' error. Henry Koehler cleared the bases with a triple down the right field line, and Jake Wilhoit later cleared them with a double, also to right. John Hosmer and Alex Fedje-Johnson plated runs with doubles down the line in left, making it 8-1.
The Wildcats added a run in the sixth on Jacob Hinderleider's RBI-groundout and in the seventh when Ryan Wilson reached on an error and John Hosmer hit into a fielder's choice.
Jake Biederman (5.2 innings) and Will Schomberg (3.1) combined for the effort on the mound, with Biederman improving to 5-1 and Schomberg earning his first save of the year.
Biederman surrendered seven hits and two earned runs, while walking three and striking out five.
Schomberg allowed two hits and an earned run, while walking one and striking out seven.
