'Cats Set to Host Wofford in Kannapolis
3/29/2021 11:43:00 PM | Baseball
Another unique opportunity awaits the Davidson baseball team Tuesday evening, as the Wildcats will host Wofford at the new Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis.
Â
It's the minor league home of the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, and the contest with the Terriers is just the second baseball game to be held on the diamond.
Â
"We're looking forward to playing at Atrium Health Ballpark and are thrilled to have the opportunity to make this trip," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "We've been fortunate to play in a lot of great venues this season, and this might be the most exciting one for our program. It looks like weather will be perfect at game time. Hopefully we'll have a great turnout from Kannapolis, Davidson and the surrounding communities."Â
Â
Tickets are being sold through the Cannon Ballers. For more information, visit kcballers.com or call 704-932-3267.
The game will be broadcast on WGNC 1450 AM Gastonia.
Last time out
The Wildcats are coming off a series sweep of Seton Hall, in which they extended their home winning streak to 15 games. That's third-best in the country, behind Wright State (22) and Navy (16).
Â
The Seton Hall series featured three one-run victories and two walk-off wins. The Wildcats prevailed 6-5 Friday when John Hosmer drew a bases loaded walk and won 2-1 Saturday when Alex Fedje-Johnson doubled in the winning run. Davidson won 3-2 Sunday when Joe Haney's RBI-single broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh.
Â
Lone exception
The Wildcats have won seven of their last eight, with the only loss in the stretch coming to Wofford on March 23 in Spartanburg.
Â
A week ago, the Terriers prevailed 5-1 to snap Davidson's four-game winning streak.
Â
Ruben Fontes provided the only Davidson run with a sixth inning solo home run to right-center.
