Fontes Homers in Wildcats' Loss at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Ruben Fontes hit his third home run of the season, but Davidson struggled to generate much more offense in a 5-1 loss to Wofford Tuesday night.
With the loss, which snapped a four-game winning streak, the Wildcats are now 9-9.
The Atlantic 10's home run leader in 2019, Fontes went deep to right-center in the top of the sixth inning, cutting the Terriers' lead to 4-1.
But the Wildcats were held to just three other hits: singles by Alex Fedje-Johnson and John Hosmer and a fourth-inning double to left by Michael Carico.
Wofford took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after a two-RBI double by Jack Renwick, and John Dempsey answered Fontes' homer with his own solo shot in the eighth.
Jacob Walker started on the mound and threw 3.1 innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out four. The bullpen took over from there, and Bennett Flynn (2.0 IP) and Nolan DeVos (0.2 IP) combined to strike out seven over the final 2.2 innings.
