Hosmer, Hely Drive 'Cats Past Badgers

Blake Hely tossed an eight-inning gem, and John Hosmer drove in three runs as Davidson topped Spring Hill College 5-1 Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats, now 8-8, will go for the series sweep on Sunday.
Hely retired 11 of 12 batters in one stretch and earned his third win of the year. He allowed four hits, one earned run and walked two, while striking out five. Bennett Flynn pitched a hitless ninth to end it.
The team's RBI-leader with 19, Hosmer went 3-for-4 at the plate. He drove in Parker Nolan with an RBI-double in the second to make it 2-0, then brought in Trevor Candelaria and Ruben Fontes with a two-RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0. He also singled in the fourth.
Davidson took an early 1-0 lead on a Candelaria RBI-groundout in the first, and Ryan Wilson added an RBI-single in the eighth. Wilson and Fontes had two hits apiece.
The win is the 50th of Rucker Taylor's head coaching career.
