DAVIDSON, N.C. – Two of the Atlantic 10's top senior guards — Davidson's Kellan Grady and Dayton's Jalen Crutcher — combined to score 56 points Friday night in an overtime classic the Flyers won 89-78 in Belk Arena.
Grady scored 27 to lead the Wildcats, while Crutcher turned in a career-high 29 as the Flyers bounced back from an upset loss to Fordham.
Despite trailing for more than 36 minutes of regulation, the Wildcats forced overtime after Grady tied the game at 72-all with a step-back 3-pointer from the right wing with 3.3 seconds left. Dayton's Ibi Watson launched a long shot at the buzzer, but it missed the mark.
Dayton pulled away in the extra five minutes with a 13-2 run.
Davidson forward Luka Brajkovic added a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards. His drive and dunk with 15 seconds left in regulation cut the Flyers' lead to 70-69. Crutcher hit two free throws with 12.8 ticks left to make it 72-69 before Grady's trey tied it.
Wildcat guard Carter Collins added 13 points, and freshman Grant Huffman continued his emergence as an impact player off the bench. He scored nine.
Watson provided 23 points for Dayton.
After the two teams traded runs early in the period, they battled back and forth the remainder of the half before Dayton carried a 32-31 lead into the break.
