The Davidson Wildcats return to the diamond Tuesday night when they host No. 10 Duke at Charlotte's BB&T Ballpark. Â
Â
First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. at the home of the Triple-A Charlotte Knights, and it's a matchup of 12-3 teams. It's also the first game of the Knights' six-game Collegiate Baseball Series this year.
Â
"The opportunity to play at BB&T Ballpark is something we look forward to every year," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor. "The facility is one of, if not the best, in minor league baseball. Maybe even more impressive, is how well the Knights treat us. It's as if we are the Triple-A team for the day. Everything is first class from the step in the door. We are fortunate to be able to play this year with the Knights adding the ACC Baseball Tournament in 2020, which should be an exciting event for the city. We are thankful for the experience and hope we can continue the relationship moving forward."
Â
The Wildcats are coming off a series sweep of Siena over the weekend. It was the team's third sweep (also Lehigh and Georgetown) and fourth series win (also Lafayette).
Â
The Blue Devils, coached by former Davidson pitcher Chris Pollard ('96), have won three of their last four games, including two of three against Florida State in their opening ACC series over the weekend.
Â
Last year's meetings
Duke won both matchups between the Wildcats and Blue Devils in 2019. Duke prevailed 7-3 on Feb. 19 in Durham and 7-2 in Davidson on March 26.
Â
Brett Centracchio drove in all three runs in Durham meeting, including two on an eighth-inning double. In the rematch, Alex Mardiney had an RBI-double and scored on an error.
Â
In all, Duke has won eight straight against the Wildcats.
Â
Old foes
The series dates to March 31, 1902 when Davidson defeated Duke (then Trinity College) 6-2.
Â
Davidson owns 31 wins over Duke. Its most recent came on March 25, 2014 when the Wildcats won a 3-2 contest at Wilson Field. That day, Ty Middlebrooks' RBI-single in the fourth inning was the go-ahead run, and a sophomore reliever named Durin O'Linger earned his first career win out of the bullpen.

The 'Cats at BB&T
Tuesday's game is the third Davidson will at the Uptown Charlotte ballpark, which opened in 2014.
Â
Last season, Davidson lost 7-4 to Winthrop after leading most of the way. Ruben Fontes and Brett Centracchio each homered for the Wildcats.
Â
The Wildcats and Blue Devils were scheduled to meet at BB&T Ballpark in 2018, but the game was canceled because of rain.
Â
In 2017, Davidson defeated Winthrop 7-6 on a 10th-inning, walk-off sacrifice fly by then-senior Tyler Agard. The May 10 victory was the first of 11 Wildcat wins in a 13-game stretch, which included the Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA Chapel Hill Regional titles.
