Highlights
DAVIDSON, N.C. — A second straight nip-and-tuck affair on the diamond between Davidson and N.C. Central ended with a 9-6 Eagles' victory Sunday at Wilson Field.
Â
N.C. Central scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure the lead for good, one day after beating the Wildcats 10-9 in Durham.
Â
Davidson (14-12) has now lost five straight, while the Eagles improved to 14-17.
Â
Much like Saturday's contest, the Eagles responded when needed, most notably after the Wildcats tied the game at 6-6 with a run in the seventh.
Â
In the eighth, the Eagles loaded the bases and pushed a run across on a Trey Maslin bunt, then two more on a Vinny Bailey single.
Â
Davidson threatened in the eighth, loading the bases on singles from Ruben Fontes and Trevor Candelaria and a two-out walk from Greg Lowe. But Max Bazin was called out on strikes to end the frame.
Â
The Wildcats trailed 4-0 early, but tied the game with four runs off four hits in the fourth inning including an RBI-double by Fontes down the right field line and a Candelaria RBI-single to center.
Â
Eric Jones' solo home run down the left field line, his fourth of the year, tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth.
Â
Bazin and Candelaria led the Wildcats with three hits apiece.
Â
Up Next
Davidson is back in action Tuesday when it visits Winthrop. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C.
