'Cats Drop Series Finale at VCU

RICHMOND, Va. — Justin Lebek hit his third home run of the season, but the Davidson baseball team dropped its series finale with VCU 13-1 Sunday afternoon at The Diamond.
With the loss, Davidson fell to 14-9 overall and 4-2 against Atlantic 10 Conference competition. The Rams (21-7) improved to 5-1 in the A-10.
Lebek's home run to left came in the fifth inning, with the Wildcats trailing 4-0.
Davidson was held to three hits. Ruben Fontes had an infield single in the second, and Max Bazin doubled in the eighth.
Sunday marked the end of Alex Mardiney's hit streak. The Wildcats' left fielder and leadoff hitter had hit safely in his previous 12 games and hit .413 (19-for-46) in that stretch. Sunday, he struck out twice and flied out to left.
The Rams were led at the plate by Liam Hibbits, who hit a three-run home run in the sixth and a two-run shot in the eighth.

The Wildcats visit North Carolina Tuesday at 6 p.m. It will mark Davidson's first trip to Boshamer Stadium since defeating the Tar Heels twice en route to the 2017 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional championship.
