Baseball Falls for First Time in A-10 play

RICHMOND, Va. — Davidson took a two-run lead into the sixth inning Saturday, but VCU rallied to plate six runs in the sixth and seventh to win 7-3 and even the weekend series.
The loss is the first in Atlantic 10 play for Davidson, which fell to 14-8 overall and 4-1 in league play one day after winning 3-2. The Rams (20-7) are also 4-1 in the A-10.
After VCU struck with a run in the first, Trevor Candelaria's RBI-single evened the score in the second inning. Justin Lebek's RBI-single in the third gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead, and Eric Jones scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 3-1.
The Rams took the lead on a bases-clearing RBI-double by Liam Hibbits with two outs in the sixth.
Candelaria, Jones and Matt Frey each had two hits for the Wildcats, and leadoff hitter Alex Mardiney extended his hit streak to 12 games with a seventh-inning single down the right field line.
Starter Josh Hudson threw five innings, struck out five, walked three and allowed six hits and one earned run. He left with no decision.
